Cloud powered nextgen ERP solutions
Cloud computing become popular after Amazon introduced Elastic Cloud Computing service, which provided a platform as a service model to the operational engineers. As like any other applications moved to the cloud platform, ERP software started move to the cloud based technologies in 2010. Along with the cloud technologies, ERP based applications starts growing because of the scalability and computing flexibility which cloud computing provided. This changed the conventional architecture of desktop ERP to enterprise level, web based ERP solutions. The main attracting factor of an ERP system to the cloud is the high availability of the services across the globe and resource availability factors like storage, computing power, and scalability.
Legacy ERP software were using desktops as platform to operate. The last generation of ERP software used distributed application within the intranet that is within the organisation. To make this ERP system to public, it costs alot for organizations in terms of procuring hardware and internet connectivity options. To have a high available ERP application required a geo distributed architecture, which needed higher investment to an organisation. Cloud computing came into picture to solve above issues in ARP markets.
Most of the cloud based ERP applications are deployed across multiple geographical region to ensure the quality of service and high availability. Distributed ERP servers over cloud are able to provide on-time services even the connectivity to a geographical region is disconnected. Disaster recovery becomes handy when the application were available in multiple regions. Another factor which ERP systems attracted by cloud services, is the auto scalability. When there is a peak time occurred on an ERP, the load become balanced by horizontally scaling up the hardware resources, which helped to improve quality and availability of ERP services to next level. Cost per hour price model saved a lot of investment to the ERP vendor organisations when they started using auto scaling feature of cloud computing.
Multitenant cloud ERP solutions were designed for organisational needs. Most of the Cloud ERP applications using public clouds, were as a few organisations preferred hybrid or private cloud deployment architecture. In public cloud architecture, all ERP components such as web servers, databases, backup servers, email servers, etc. are kept in the public cloud providers data centers. In hybrid model most of the critical servers such as databases, email, etc. were resided in organisation’s own data centers were as less critical servers like web application servers kept in the public cloud. In private cloud deployment models, all ERP components were deployed in organisation's own data centers. Multi tenancy enabled less management cost to end users where all the maintenance, availability constraints are managed by the vendors. The users will have the flexibility to configure the ERP for their needs based on their requirements.
The emerging technologies in the cloud computing services are frequently adapted by the cloud based ERP systems like distributed databases, autoscaling of application servers, in-memory database services, statistics analysis services, big data implementations, bulk storage services, etc. to keep the quality of the service in the competitive market. The Nextgen ERP solutions are designed for the cloud and multi tenancy requirement by the insight of futures markets.
